Artist q&a:

Each week, new Artist Q&A features will be posted, giving less-known upcoming artists the opportunity to answer some quick fire questions about them, their music, and their journey in the industry so far! It is also an opportunity for their communities to get to know them a little bit better and learn more about the music they love!

RYAN REDWOOD, NORWICH (UK), INDIE ALT ROCK.

Did you always see yourself becoming an artist or did it happen naturally?

“I think as soon as I started playing guitar, I saw a future where I would be doing this for a long time. Before that, it was always about football for me”.

Who were your earliest musical influences?

“Arctic Monkeys, Green Day and Foo Fighters were the band that really made me want to get into music”.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting out?

“Probably just figuring out how to navigate the industry. Especially starting out so young (I was about 15/16). I remember not having a clue on how to release music or book gigs”.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before?

“I’d probably say Catfish and the Bottlemen meets Oasis meets Foo Fighters. Raw Indie with big choruses and loud guitars”.

Which song of yours feels the most personal and why?

“Probably ‘Old News’. It was the first time I’d written lyrics about my ADHD and how I feel about it on a day to day basis. I remember being quiet nervous about that song when it dropped but it went down really well and some people even related to the way I was feeling in that tune!”

What is something your community would be surprised to know about you?

“I’m not sure if people know this already but I’m a big golf fan, I love watching and playing, just wish I had more time to do so”.

What keeps you motivated to keep writing?

“Everyday life really, there’s always more stories to tell and more memories to make so why not keep trying to capture them!”.

What message do you hope that your listeners take from your music?

“That it’s okay to talk about what’s going on in your head. It’s okay to want to be free from monotony, it’s okay to dream big and want to be a better person. Go out there and be who you want to be. Life is too short”.

Do you have any dream collaborations? This can be realistic or on a broader spectrum.

“Sounds really basic but I’d love to write a tune with Noelly G. If I can’t have that I’ll settle on writing a tune with Dan Stock from CUSP”.
